How to Install WireGuard on Windows

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing WireGuard on a Microsoft Windows device.

WireGuard is a secure VPN client used to establish encrypted connections to corporate or private networks. This article covers installation only. Configuration will be provided separately by IT.

📋 Prerequisites

Before you begin:

  • A device running Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Administrator rights on your computer
  • Internet access

⬇️ Step 1: Download WireGuard

  1. Open your preferred web browser
  2. Navigate to the official WireGuard download page:

  3. Under Windows, click Download Windows Installer

⚙️ Step 2: Run the Installer

  1. Locate the downloaded .msi file (typically in your Downloads folder)
  2. Double-click the file to launch the installer

⚠️ If prompted by Windows security, click Run or Yes to proceed.

🧰 Step 3: Complete the Installation

  1. In the setup wizard, click Next
  2. Click Install to begin installation
  3. Wait for the installation to complete
  4. Click Finish

✅ Step 4: Confirm Installation

Once installed:

  • WireGuard will be available in your Start Menu
  • You may also see it listed under installed applications

To verify:

  1. Click the Start Menu
  2. Search for WireGuard
  3. Open the application to confirm it launches successfully

  • Configuration files and access will be provided separately
