How to Export Saved Passwords from Google Chrome
Exporting your passwords is a useful way to back up your credentials and migrate them to a
new service. Follow these steps to securely download your data as a CSV file.
Step 1: Open Google Password Manager
1. Launch Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots (Menu) in the top-right corner of the browser.
3. Hover over Passwords and autofill, then select Google Password Manager from
the secondary menu.
Step 2: Navigate to Settings & Export
1. On the left-hand sidebar of the Password Manager page, click on Settings.
2. Locate the Export passwords section.
3. Click the Download file button.
Note: Chrome will prompt you to enter your computer's Windows or Mac password/PIN to
verify your identity before the download starts.
Step 3: Save Your Password File
1. A file explorer window will open. Choose a Safe Location (such as a secure folder or
encrypted drive) to save the file.
2. Confirm the File name (e.g., "Chrome Passwords") and ensure the type is Microsoft
Excel Comma Separated Values File (.csv).
3. Click Save.
Security Best Practices
• Plain Text Warning: The exported CSV file contains your passwords in unencrypted
plain text. Anyone with access to this file can read your credentials.
• Cleanup: Delete the file immediately once you have finished importing it into
another manager.
• Storage: Never store this file on a public or shared computer.
